It was a beautiful day in Pakse and I had an appointment with the superintendent of Houay Laou Elementary School. During my first visit to the school, the superintendent and teachers invited me to visit the students on their activity day. This is the day of the week when our Lao Book Box Library is being used by the students.
Walking to School in Pakse
Aunt Pik who is a fifth grade teacher at Houay Laou Elementary School walked to the house I was staying in and led me to Houay Laou Elementary School. We walked through the rice paddy to get to the school. It was beautiful to see the local people harvesting the sticky rice and to feel the breeze on my face. The smell of the rice was intoxicating and I was amazed to see so many clouds in the sky. If I didn’t have an appointment that day I would be in a hammock swinging away under a shade and sipping coconut juice, fresh from the tree.
