On Friday the 13th, I went to Berlin for Valentine’s Day weekend. The flight was scheduled at 6:50 AM and it was a change of plan from taking a train to flying instead to save time and money. It was cheaper to fly for 45 minutes than taking a train for at least 7 hours to Berlin from Rotterdam.
I had to get up at 2:30 AM to make it to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and to check in on time. As we were standing in line to board the plane, we saw the news about a plane crash in the US on CNN. I said my prayer before take off while sitting in the 13th row seat.
The flight was smooth and it was a beautiful sight to see as we got closer to Berlin with the sun rising in the horizon. It was a pity that I didn’t capture the beautiful sight better on camera.
Getting around Berlin is easy since we bought Berlin Welcome Card at 22 Euros per card for 72 hours pass. It is a good deal with many discounts offered with the card. Since I was and still battling the flu we didn’t do much on the first day and spent the afternoon hanging out around Alexandraplatz and checking out Galeria Kaufhof Mall.
It was a nice and sunny day but I was not feeling well enough to go up on the Berliner Fernsehturm (Berlin TV tower). In the evening we went looking for a sushi restaurant around Postdamer Platz and saw the Brandenburger Tor or Brandenburg Gate.
