During my last trip to Vientiane, Laos, I made a few trips to Vientiane Post Office to stock up on my Lao stamps. It’s quite easy to get to the main post office in Vientiane because it’s opposite of the Morning Market, known to the locals as Talat Sao.

As a Lao stamps collector, I was in heaven and was spending an entire morning, afternoon, and an entire day sorting out various Lao stamps and sheets. After buying what I wanted I then had to have them franked to add to my collections. You have to be a collector to understand the thrill of spending all day looking at something as beautiful as Lao stamps.

  1. Sabaidee Sao Darly:
I saw your website because you like to collect stamps.  I have a big stamp collection of Thai and Laos stamps.
One thing that is hard to determine is the schedule of new stamps from Laos.
If you would like to be friends for stamp collecting, please email me back at my email address.
I hope to hear from you.

  2. Sabaidee Mike,

It’s a pleasure to meet you. It’s quite difficult to collect Lao stamps since less are coming out each year. For the past couple of years I’ve been calling my aunt in Laos and asked her to visit the main post office in Vientiane to check when the new stamp is coming out. Even then I’m missing a couple of issues from 2008 and 2009. So far, I’ve heard there are 6 new stamps that came out this year.

  3. Hi

I am starting to colect lao stamps too. After looking at your pictures i whonder why do you get your stamps franked after you buy them? I have some unfranked (new) stamps too. Would it be better if I had hem franked?

  4. Hi Jonsie,

I am expanding my collection to include franked ones as well. Most of my stamps are in mint condition never hanged ones. It’s up to your preference what kind of collection you want to have. Some of my friends collect only used stamps (franked ones) and when I send them covers I thought it would be fun to have franked ones for my collection as well.
