Vat Phou Festival, Champasak, Laos

Sights and sounds of the annual Vat Phou Festival in Champassak, Laos. This is the last year for my relatives to take a ferry across the river to be able to attend the festival. The new road is under construction and will be completed before the next festival in 2010.

When attending Boun Vat Phou, it’s a tradition to have Khao Poon, Khao Larm (sticky rice in bamboo tube) and Ping Kai (grilled chicken), Tom Kai (chicken soup) with ant eggs for a meal. As for me, I would add Tam Maak Hoong to have with the grilled chicken.
