Vat Phou Festival Almsgiving

Vat Phou Festival Almsgiving

My Aunt Phet and my cousin Bay along with other relatives attended the famous Vat Phou Festival Almsgiving Ceremony in Champassak Province this morning. The festival is bigger than the one I attended last year with more activities for both tourists and locals to enjoy.

Vat Phou Festival is usually a week long festivity with day and night time entertainments. I only had a chance to attend the festival during the day time and had the opportunity to shop at various stalls selling clothing apparel, traditional garments, handicrafts and pottery, bamboo furniture, and women baskets. There was also sporting events to watch with my relatives like football matches and boat races.

It was a pity that I didn’t have a chance to attend the Almsgiving Ceremony on the last day of the festival and witness the lighting of thousands of lanterns on the last evening of the festival.

The best part of the festival is of course the opportunity to share delicious Lao Food with friends and family members and to take home Khao Larm and Ping Kai to share with those relatives that are unable to attend the festival.
