Grand-Papa's funeral in October of 2006

The funeral of my Grand-Papa was on the morning of the Boat Racing Festival of 2006. The limited memory that I have of him was all good. He was good to me even though I didn’t know who he really was. I did my part in helping with the funeral and also with Boun Loy Vanh. I have only respect for him and while I know that he was not a perfect father to all of his children or grand-children, he was only human. Rest in peace Grand-Papa.

  1. Thanks for sharing the photos with us Darly, funeral in the US is nothing like this, where as in Laos, the cremation is out in the open.  I think what I missed most was the Sala of the Wat (Buddhist Temple).

  2. Hi Nye,

One photo that struck me was of the children from the village. They don’t seem to be scare at all and just sat there watching the funeral, especially the cremation.

By posting these pictures I hope to have more courage to look at my Grandmother’s funeral photos and also of my sister when I go home the next time. It’s a way for me to cope with my past.
