Since I am in Laos and could not celebrate Thanksgiving Dinner in the US with my family, I told my relatives about the family tradition with the big feast of roasted turkey with stuffing and the pecan pie that I would bake for my siblings. My relatives were combining two birthday celebrations for my cousins into one and they added a Thanksgiving celebration into the mix to make me feel at home.
I was still not feeling well and didn’t even eat Lao green papaya salad for lunch or dinner. I ate two plates of my favorite Lao food dishes such as Yum Salad, Soured Pork Sausage, Minced Pork Salad, and washed them all down with Nam Varn Lod Chong. There was no turky, pecan pie, or pumpkin pie to add to the meal but that is just something extra since most Lao people I know in the US would have mostly Lao food dishes for Thanksgiving Dinner. We even took turns giving Thanks for what we have and I was happy to introduced this one tradition to my relatives in Laos.
