A taxi ride from Luang Prabang Airport to the center of town is still the same price as the last time I was in Laos back in February/March of this year. It’s 50,000 KIP for a ride in a van from the airport parking lot to a guest house or hotel in town center which is about 10 to 15 minutes away from the airport. When you come out the door, there is a table to buy a ticket and the taxi union made up of several drivers take turn with shuttling the passengers to town.
I heard the price of a Tuk Tuk is not much cheaper, perhaps 10,000 KIP less but you have to drag your stuff a few meters from the entrance area and might get lucky finding a Tuk Tuk. Due to a new restriction, Tuk Tuk is now allowed to be in an area where the taxi union is located so the only option is paying the set fee, which is the same as for taxi fee in Vientiane at Wattay Airport (50,000 KIP).
I couldn’t reach my previous taxi driver so I just went with whoever was on que at the time. It was a nice short ride into town with the sun setting and people going home from work or school. So this was rush hour traffic in Luang Prabang.
