Tam Som or the more specific name Tam Mak Hoong ( ຕໍາໝາກຫຸ່ງ Lao Green Papaya Salad ) for dinner in Vientiane, Laos.
I bought the green papaya salad from Nang Kao Restaurant. The restaurant is well known in Vientiane for having delicious Tam Som and it’s no wonder Nang Kao ( ນາງເກົ້າ ) is the winner of the Papaya Salad Contest at 2013 Lao Food Festival, held at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane, Laos.
My dinner costs 17,000 Kips, 10,000 Kips for the papaya salad. I bought the rice vermicelli noodle ( ເຂົ້າປຸ້ນ khao poon ) and the pork crackling, pork rind ( ຄຽບໝູ kiep moo ) as extra side dishes to go with the provided phak bong ( ຜັກບົ້ງ ). It was a big plate of food to eat for one person but I managed to clear the plate with lots of pleasure.
