It is my fourth day in Laos. We had to get up early so we can leave at 5:30 AM sharp to go catch a bus to Pakse at Vientiane Southern Bus Terminal. I wanted to travel during the day so I can take some pictures along the way since I didn’t get to do that before. Since the weather was warm I wanted to travel by VIP bus, not for myself but for aunt Phone who would be more comfortable riding in an AC bus. I told the relatives that I read somewhere on the internet about a VIP bus going to Pakse during the day. Aunt Phone went to check with the Northern Bus Station and found out there is a VIP bus going to Pakse but it doesn’t leave everyday and today would be the day so she called the bus company and reserved three tickets.
We left at 5:30 AM sharp to catch the 7:15 AM bus to Pakse. When we got there our Tuk-Tuk driver saw a VIP bus and took us straight there. Within minutes, our belongs were put under the bus. I went inside to pick our seats and everyone were happy. Then we got outside and took some pictures of the bus. I then noticed the sign on the bus that it was for Vientiane to Savannakhet. I asked aunt Phone if this is the right bus. After some discussion it turned out that the last stop would be Savan only but the driver would connect us to Pakse. Aunt Phone didn’t like the idea because the last time they had to wait 5 hours in Savannakhet and got to Pakse late at night.
We went looking for the right bus and aunt Phone bought three tickets for us. The bus driver of the VIP bus to Pakse told us that it would be a good idea if we go with him because we would be riding in comfort. He told us that our bus is a piece of junk and the bus driver will turn off the AC after ten minutes of leaving the station. He even came up to me and tried to get me to get aunt Phone to change her mind. I didn’t try to get Aunt Phone to change her mind. Even though I am the one paying for everything I don’t want to make fuss and just let things be.
This bus driver of the VIP Bus to Savannakhet was a really good guy. He said he would not take the fee for exchanging our bus tickets, upgrading from the Express Bus to VIP Bus. At one point in time aunt Phone wanted to exchange the tickets but there was a heated discussion among the two bus drivers. In the end, my aunt didn’t want a war between the two bus drivers and we just accept our fate to keep the peace.
