Pickled Fish (Som Pa; ສົ້ມປາ) and Pickled Fish Roe (Som Khai Pa; ສົ້ມໄຂ່ປາ) at the Morning Market in Luang Prabang, Laos.
The grandmother who was selling the Som Pa and Som Khai Pa told me it was her last batch from Xayaburi.
She urged me to taste it and help her with a small purchase. I bought one bag of Pickled Fish and one bag of Pickled Fish Roe from that grandmother. I was not sure whether I would eat it but I knew my relatives would enjoy eating the pickled fish, especially pickled fish roe since it’s considered a delicacy by some people.
