It’s a common thing to see roadside fruit stand all over Laos. Each fruit stand is unique on its own. One fruit stand in Tha Ngon is well known for having delicious tamarind, that is not too ripe and with a perfect blend of sweet and sourness taste.
On our way to Paksong, we decided to pick up some papayas and bananas for dessert later at a picnic in Pa Suam. While we were waiting for our fruits to be put in a bag, we saw a female pig as she was crossing the street and heading toward our fruit stand. Her four piglets were following her slowly as they were picking up scraps along the way.
I have seen buffaloes and cows on the street on their way to a rice field for a meal but have never seen a pig with her children on their own before. The mother pig found some banana peels and other fruit skins on the ground and was calling for her children to come along. That pig and her children reminded me of my former pigs in Vientiane. I hope they will stay safe when they go out looking for a meal.
