Nam Khao for lunch in Vientiane, Laos. It has been a couple of years in I’ve eaten Nam Khao and was very happy to have someone make it for me nice and fresh. The Nam Sausage or Som Moo was made by a grandmother using her family’s recipe and she also makes a living for years selling her Som Moo.
I don’t know how to make Nam Khao and wanted to learn from my aunt in the USA but she guards her recipe quite well. My mother is extremely busy and rather than spending Saturday making Nam Khao she would just ask my aunt to make it and pays 10 dollars for 12 fried rice balls. We then mix all the ingredients together and season the way we like it.
I need to go to Laos and spend a month or two learning how to make some of the Lao traditional dishes that I like so much and can make them whenever a craving hits me.
