Mak Phang is Bouea macrophylla, known in English as the plum mango, gandaria, or marian plum. There are two types of Mak Phang, one is sweet and the other is sour.

I like to eat the sour type fruit with chili dipping sauce. My two aunts in Vientiane like to pickle the sour type along with young green mango and young tamarind.
