Aunt Phone is teaching my two cousins on how to make Nam Khao Tod, which is known in the English language as Lao Crispy Rice Salad, Lao Fried Rice Ball Salad, or Lao Fried Rice Ball and Sour Pork Salad, to name a few. This is a very simple version of making the rice balls before deep frying them in hot oil.
To make the salad, break the fried rice balls into small pieces and place in a mixing bowl. Break the Som Moo (sour pork sausage or fermented pork sausage) into the mixture. Add fish sauce, lime juice, salt, sugar, spring onion, coriander, roasted peanut, and toss the ingredients together.
Nam Khao Tod is usually served with vegetables, herbs, and roasted dried chili peppers.
