For breakfast today, I bought four Khao Jie Pate (Lao Sandwich) to share with the three grandmothers at the Morning Market in Luang Prabang, Laos. This sandwich stall by the name of Aunt Bun is quite popular. It’s located on Kitsalat Road, next to Dara Market and usually busy in the early morning hours.
As a kid living in Vientiane, my mother often bought Khao Jie Pate from the Morning Market (Talat Sao) for breakfast. She would cut the long sandwich into three pieces and my siblings and I would grab a piece and eat it while walking to school. We can easily find Khao Jie Pate in the US but it’s not as good as the one in Laos.
