I was at Gokpho Market getting my daily dose of Lao Green Papaya Salad from my favorite Tum Mak Houng seller and noticed a Kanom Kok cart a few meters from the parking area. The aroma of coconut milk was intoxicating and I walked over to check out what I can take home to sooth my tongue after a plate of spicy papaya salad. The owner of Kanom Kok Xao Vang offers a variety of fillings for Kanom Kok.
It’s not just the typical filling with green onion that I’m used to seeing since I was a little kid in Laos. Now I can choose a traditional Kanom Kok (coconut rice cakes) or be bold and go with taro, corn, and pumpkin.
Let’s just say I bought plenty to try them out!
