It’s been almost a month since I had my last tum mak houng or Lao green papaya salad. So, if I’ve been extra cranky this week is because I need my tum mak houng fix. Green papaya is getting more expensive these days and the price keep going up month by month.

Food is just getting more expensive, thanks to increasing fuel prices so pretty much any fruit or vegetable from Thailand is not as affordable like it used to since we pay arms and legs for being able to eat our usual Lao food. The good news is that I’ll be able to get my hands on a papaya this weekend so I can have my comfort food. If I was in Laos right now, I would just walk into a relative’s garden and pick a papaya off a tree. It doesn’t get any fresher than that!
