Lunch in Vientiane, Laos with Lao green papaya salad with crab (Tam Mak Hoong Sai Kapou ຕໍາໝາກຫຸ່ງໄສ່ກະປູ), fried catfish (Tod Pa Douk) and some fried banana for dessert. We bought the Tam Maak Hoong at Kok Pho Market (Talat Kok Pho) to go with the fried catfish, made by my cousin.
As a kid in Laos, I used to eat fried catfish ( Tod Pa Douk ທອດປາດຸກ ) with Lao string beans salad (Tam Mak Thua Yao ຕຳໝາກຖົ່ວຍາວ). Thanks to my relatives, I know it’s also delicious with Lao green papaya salad.
For dessert, it was deep fried banana and deep fried taro bought from Kok Pho Market (Talat Kok Pho). It’s a bit fattening but I could always walk off the calories along the Mekong River at sunset later.
