Our house was filled with relatives from my father’s side of the family today. We had a nice BBQ party with my brother doing the grilling of the meat and chicken. I was busy making Tam Maak Hoong per order while the others were busy enjoying their dinner.
My mother and I spent most of the day making Kaeng Nor Mai (Lao Bamboo Shoot Soup) and Khao Poon ( Lao rice vermicelli soup). The other aunts brought their own dishes for the party like Miang Nung Moo, Vietnamese Bánh cuốn, and my father got to show off his Pickled Mustard Greens to his relatives. For dessert it was cookies, fruits, and Nam Varn Sakoo made by my mother. The tapioca dessert was a bit thick since my mother added too much tapioca balls but the younger kids love to scoop it up by the spoon.
