After experiencing the ups and downs of a bus ride from Vientiane to Pakse twice with the VIP bus to Pakse and regular bus back to Vientiane in 2007, the Express Bus to Pakse and VIP Bus back to Vientiane in 2008, I didn’t even want to give a VIP Bus to Luang Prabang a chance.
If it’s about saving money, then flying from Vientiane (VTE), to Luang Prabang (LPQ) is quite affordable these days for one to two person. I booked a round trip airfares for $156.40 and thought it was a good deal comparing to the estimated 10 hours or more on a bus journey. The flight took about 40 minutes which means plenty of time for me to check out the city rather than sitting in a bus for hours.
