I finally got a taste of the season’s first herring on June 12. The Dutch herring season opened on June 08 and there was an ad at the local supermarket about the sale for 1 Euro discount per two fishes. I bought enough to make my very own Laap Herring rather than eating the fish the Dutch way (raw with chopped onions).

Don’t get me wrong, now and then I do enjoy having herring the Dutch way.
