On our way home from the fish farm, we had to do some grocery shopping at a market outside Tha Ngon. My aunt told me that particular market is famous for bugs and insects. As a matter of fact the local people gave its name as Talat Meng Mai or Bugs and Insects Market.

I have no idea what some of the bugs and insects are. But in Laos, bugs and insects are food. These bugs and insects are fried with herbs and seasoned with salt and spices according to the cook.

Having to decide on which plate or bowl is another matter. My mother bought a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I only tried a couple of fried silkworm pupae. It was nutty tasting, that’s all I can remember.
