Before leaving Hortus Botanicus Leiden I said farewell to the beautiful dahlia by entrance/exit gate. I don’t know if I would ever come back to this garden in the coming year. This could be my last visit to the Leiden University garden.

Hortus Botanicus Leiden is a perfect place to have a wedding. The official ceremony will take place at the Oranjerie. This building was constructed between 1740-1744 and was renovated in 2004. The wedding period is from April to October and the prospect bride and groom can make reservation for a perfect wedding date.

At the other end of the fish pond is the Japanese Garden. The design is simple but there is a sense of calm and peacefulness sitting there in the middle of the garden.

The last time I visited the fish pond at Hortus Botanicus Leiden was in May of this year. Back then there was not much to see on the ground. Now, there are plenty of plants and flowers around the pond. The fishes are as friendly as they were and not afraid to approach visitors to the garden and their home.

For today’s visit to Hortus Botanicus Leiden, I only checked out one side of the greenhouse. My favorite part is the pond, located in the middle section of the greenhouse. I feel like I am in Laos with all the familiar plants that I used to grow at home.

I often go to Hortus Botanicus Leiden during the spring time because that’s when school is still in session. I either go to the university garden after class to check out the spring blossoms. This is the first time for me going to the garden so late in the year. There are plenty of plants and flowers to keep me happy, like the colorful dahlia for example.

I went back to Hortus Botanicus Leiden on August 29, 2008 to take check out the beautiful dahlia. When I was at the botanical garden earlier last month, I ran out of battery and it was closing time as well so I didn’t have a chance to make photos of this beautiful flower. I didn’t know the name of this flower at a time and have never seen it before in my life. Before entering the main garden, I made sure to take enough photos of the exhibition at the entrance of Hortus Botanicus. This area is free so you can roam around and check out some plants and flowers. Of course, the best part is beyond the gate.
