Kanom means treat or sweet in Lao. Kanom Dok Bua is a treat that tastes somewhat like Chinese fortune cookies. It’s lighter and flaky and crunchy and shapes like Dok Bua or lotus, hence the name lotus.
Since it’s deep fried, kanom dok bua is a bit greasy. But not having sugar coated on top, you can eat enough without worry about gaining too much weight. It’s a great treat for kids and it goes fast at a party or gathering.
