Lao Handicraft Festival part 1

Author: DJ
August 20, 2009

We were called by Sidney’s grandmother after lunch and were invited for a trip to the Lao International Trade and Exhibition Centre (LAO-ITECC). It was the second day of the festival and we saw the grand opening ceremony on Lao Star Channel the previous day.

It was a good opportunity for me to shop for Lao Sinh (Lao Silk Skirt) as a birthday gift for my baby sister. The first trip to Lao ITECC was not fruitful since Aunt Kian thought paying 1200 Baht for a Lao Sinh would be too expensive and I could find the same thing at a lower price at Talat Sao (the Morning Market in Vientiane).

The best part of the festival was the demonstration of basket weaving, textile weaving, and other arts and crafts techniques.
